개요:
2014년 개봉한 영화 말레피센트의 속편이다. 연출은 캐리비안의 해적: 죽은 자는 말이 없다를 연출한 요하킴 뢴닝이 맡았다.

2015년 6월 16일 말레피센트의 기대 이상의 흥행 성적에 고무된 디즈니가 후속편의 제작을 발표했다. 팬들은 예상치 못한 소식에 놀라워하는 반응을 보였다. 말레피센트 역을 맡은 안젤리나 졸리가 과거 출연하였던 《원티드》와 《솔트》의 후속편이 취소되었던 것이 안젤리나 졸리의 고사 때문이었다는 소문이 있을 정도로 후속편이 출연하는 것을 워낙 꺼려서 제작이 진행될 수 있을지에 대해 우려가 있었으나 2017년 출연하겠다는 의사를 전해왔다.

2019년 3월 6일 공식 티저 포스터와 함께 부제가 공개되었다. 부제는 Mistress of Evil, 악의 여주인 혹은 여왕이란 뜻이며 전작에 쓰이지 않은 원작의 말레피센트가 한 대사의 일부이다. 또한 개봉 일자가 기존의 2020년 5월 29일에서 2019년 10월 18일로 앞당겨졌다.

Maleficent Mistress of Evil is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after Maleficent in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disneys most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora. The film continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within. The film is directed by Joachim Rnning from a story by Linda Woolverton and a screenplay by Linda Woolverton and Micah Fitzerman-Blue Noah Harpster the film is produced by Joe Roth Angelina Jolie and Duncan Henderson with Matt Smith Jeff Kirschenbaum and Michael Vieira serving as executive producers.
